Travelogue: The Everett Experience – Week 6, Everett Endings

Sunday, October 8 – October 14

I’ll be on the road again in a few more day. The next four weeks have me traveling to:

  • Cheney, WA (to regroup and have some QT with Marcia)
  • Medford, OR (my end-of-October trek to be with my dad for his birthday)
  • Cheney, WA (to pack for the next few adventures)
  • Denver, CO (Splankna training), and then
  • AFRICA (for a month-ish long adventure)

Moving day!  Today was UHaul & storage unit day.

C. had hired three strong, young men to do the heavy lifting and they had everything loaded into the UHaul in record time.  Our drive to Mount Vernon took longer than it took for them to load the UHaul, and they were equally swift in unloading it, too.

Move-ins and move-outs are NO FUN, yet these three fellows were eternally cheerful and upbeat- genuine smiles and banter the whole time. And when we were finished, they said that they had fun and that it was way better than their normal workout day. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤯

Today, I celebrate the spectacular Everett sunrise.

Tuesday, October 10th

It’s been a bit of a rough start to the week, and I’m struggling on many levels.

My time here in Everett is coming to an end, and I’ll be heading to the East side of Washington next week. It’s one more step towards figuring out where I want to live and what’s next in my future.

In light of what’s been happening, I’ve decided that it’s time for a bit more transparency- maybe it will be easier to figure out where I’m supposed to go (and what I’m supposed to do) if I am more open what what’s happened that got me here.

Ugh. I am not looking forward to this.  They won’t be in travelogue posts- they’ll be in separate posts of their own- categorized under Personal Growth and/or Communication. YA’LL BEST BUCKLE UP.

Wednesday, October 11th

It turns out that adulthood is when you get really excited about having a new dishwasher installed at your friend’s house and consider the day a “WIN”.

That makes me sad- sad in a “this is it?  This is the high point of life?  New Kitchen appliances!? Really, universe?”

Yet, when I focus on the bright side, I also recognize that I had a great coaching session with my client, a great coaching session in the OB Mastermind group, and a quiet, relaxing evening hanging out with C. So today was a win.

Dishwasher installed. Yay for adulting!

Thursday, October 12th

Sometimes it is SO HARD for me to be motivated. I’m trying so hard  to remain faithful to swimming an hour a day at least five days a week, and I really struggled to get myself to the pool today. I normally try to get to the pool in the early morning, usually no later than 7:00 a.m., but today was such a struggle that I didn’t get there until well after noon.  I *finally* got my time in the water from 12:40 – 1:40 p.m. and I am so glad I did.

I know that swimming is a great mind-body connection, but  knowing what’s helpful and actually doing what’s helpful is the gap that must be bridged for healing, growth and wellness to occur.

After I finished my swim, I decided it was time to attend to some of my own personal errands.

My trip to Africa is in three and half weeks and I had a long list of vaccinations- some overdue (oops!) and some recommended/required- that are necessary before I begin more international travelsfor where I am traveling.

I had tried to get in to the Travel Medicine Clinic at UW Medical Center NW for vaccinations, but they were booked for appointments into early December.  They recommended Katterman’s Sand Point Pharmacy for any necessary vaccinations.

I’ve hosted enough PharmD students over the years that I was very comfortable going to a pharmacy for vaccinations rather than trying to find a General Practitioner in the area, especially since I’m not a resident of Washington, and don’t plan to be.

The pharmacy staff was friendly and helpful, and though they were busy with a line of people waiting or flu shots and covid vaccinations, it didn’t take long to get my paperwork processed.
hen they came out to tell me the cost for all the vaccinations (it was in the four figures – OUCH!), all I could say in response was, “I knew there was a cost to travel adventures.”

By the time it was all said and done, I felt like a human pincushion (with a considerably lighter wallet).

All those pokes provided immunizations for MMR, T-DAP, Hep A, Hep B, Rabies, Yellow Fever, and Typhoid.

Some vaccinations require follow-up booster, so I can look forward to more pokes and prods in the coming weeks/months.  YAY?!

That's a lot of needle sticks!

Friday, October 13th

When I woke up, my body made it clear that there was no way I was going to be swimming today, so I settled in for a morning of writing while binge-watching Manifest. That works fine, since I had planned to stick close to the house for the day- C. is expecting a propane refueling, a visit from pest-control, and a follow-up visit from the fireplace repair company, so I needed to be here anyway.

Saturday, October 14th

Big plans for the day! I have slowly been dragging C. into the future- helping her set up electronic statements, automatic payments and other 21st century time-savers. We even made some technology upgrades, and I know I’m really pushing her wayyyy outside her comfort zones.  She’s doing GREAT though. 👩🏻‍💻😬

And, despite all the tortuous technology tasks I made her do, she treated me to a lovely dinner at Katana Sushi.  It’s the second time we’ve eaten there and I’d addicted to their calamari- it’s delectable.

After dinner, we headed back to the house, where we wrapped up the evening binge-watching TV in front of the fire while each of us worked on projects- me trying to catch up on writing and her catching up on work.

As I looked around her home, I saw how much progress she has made in changing her environment into the space she wants it to be. I’m so proud of what she has accomplished, and how she has made major strides in crushing some of the limiting beliefs that were holding her back.
