Therapy Thursday – Something, Nothing (and Brownies)

I’ll never forget that ‘one session’- the one where Ken enlightened me with the something, nothing and brownie lesson.

It’s worth remembering…

Sometimes, something is better than nothing.

Sometimes, nothing is better than something.

He used an analogy that I have officially dubbed ‘The Brownie Analogy’  to explain what he meant.

Before I explain, let’s be sure we are on the same page for clarity:

  1. You like (or even love) Brownies.
  2. We are talking about the chocolatey, fudgy, gooey kind, not the Girl Scout kind….

A brownie on a plate – something is better than nothing… I mean, a glass of milk would be nice (assuming you aren’t lactose intolerant), and is it too much to hope for a napkin to wipe up the crumbs?

A brownie on a plate with poop in it – nothing is better than something. (I know- super gross!)

The lesson – in case you didn’t immediately grasp it – is that things are not always what they appear, sometimes the devil IS in the details, and just because something sounds good doesn’t mean that it is.

That’s it… that’s the lesson. Take what you want from it.

Until next time….

  1. ” SNEAKY SNACKS ”
    by James Hipsher

I don’t really like to admit the facts,
But I’m addicted to Sneaky Snacks.
They knock on my door when I awake,
And creep in my thoughts at every break.

They hide in my closet and in my drawers,
Under my bed and my jackets outdoors.
They get into most every nook and cranny,
And stash themselves in my pack called fanny.

They speak to me in the house and car,
And tell where to look and where they are.
They come in all brands, large and small sizes,
And entice me t’ward them like fancy prizes.

Mostly they’re of sugar and taste like heaven,
I can eat just one but crave at least seven.
Chocolate, the leader, with his steed and saber,
Leads and begs, “Come savor my flavor.”

Then some of the others, not so sweet,
Taste of salt, but oh what a treat.
They also chain my tastebuds down,
And make me try just one more round.

I’ve plotted and aimed to shoot them all down,
But somehow they all still come around,
I’ll get them some day when I plan an attack,
And squash them like bugs, just after I snack.
