A good book can be a great escape, and an audiobook with a great reader (or great readers)

British actress  Susan Duerden delighted me with her narration of the adventures of of Myfanwy Thomas, the primary character in The Rook.
Administrative genius, supernatural marvel, clumsy special agent.
Myfanwy wakes up in a park in the rain, surrounded by bodies waring latex gloves, and with no memory of anything or anyone (including herself), she must unravel multiple mysteries:
- Who she is,
- How to use her supernatural powers,
- Who she works for (hint: secret government organization),
- Who is trying to kill her, and
- Why someone is trying to kill her.
The Rook is a rollicking good time, alternating between intrigue, humor, and suspense, with supernatural elements and international intrigue.
It’s a good read. It might be a bit challenging until you understand that the story jumps in and out of multiple  storylines-Â
- ‘Present day’, from the time the ‘new’ Myfanwy wakes in the park with no memory and has to discover who she is.
- The ‘old’ Myfanwy, who we see through the letters she wrote the ‘new’ Myfanway as she recounts her exploits and efforts to try to uncover who will attack her in the future.Â
Recommendation: Read the book The Rook, by Daniel O’Malley.  Or listen to the audiobook (which is even better!)
