Labyrinth Lessons – Perspective

I suspect that I’m not the only adult who has ever wanted to escape their current circumstances.  In times of struggle, I’ve always found it best to choose to be around people who nurture your heart and spirit in a healthy way.  Desperately craving such nurturing, I took a quick trip in October, stopping in the Portland area for a few days, and then over to Medford to be with my dad for his birthday.

Consequently, I was able to hit several labyrinths over the long weekend when I was visiting my second family.  Today’s labyrinth lesson came from a labyrinth walk I did at Cedar Hills Church of Christ  in Portland, Oregon on 10/24/2021.

The obstacles are only as large as you make them out to be.

Sometimes, we tend to cling to any excuse for why things don’t or won’t happen.

And when we believe that, it doesn’t bode well for the outcome we desire.

It often takes longer than you expect.

Patience hasn’t always been my forte, and the old adage that ‘a watched pot never boils‘ certainly feels true when I’m waiting for something to change for the better.

I try to remind myself that ‘anything worth having is worth waiting for‘, but waiting is still hard, and it’s a struggle not to veer towards the ego-centric “I didn’t really want it anyway!”(aka sour grapes) mindset.

I know I am not the only one who struggles with this. How do you handle the torture known as “The Waiting Game?”
