Guest Post – Money Makin’

People talk about networking as a way to build professional connections. I had joined a networking group called Alaska Referral Network

One day as young teenager I stayed up late and put a video game called MAG into my Playstation 3. Little did I know that my whole life trajectory was going to be shaped by the person I would meet online that night!

As a 13 or 14 year old I developed a good relationship with some guys in Toronto Canada. I developed a close friendship with one of them that would last across many games and in to adulthood to today. They are substantially older than I am but for some reason they let me into their friend group!

One of them was a Forex or foreign exchange trader, and he would be like “Boom, made $20” all while we were playing video games. I thought it was the coolest thing to be able to play video games late at night and make money at the same time. So I just had to learn how! I decided to start learning about Forex trading, and thus began my financial journey.

I never made it into actually trading Forex because as soon as I saved up my first $1,000 to start investing I started my college education and realized how expensive books are at the campus book store!! And there went my $1,000 and most of my money for the next 5 years! Then you meet an economics professor who relates supply in demand in terms of Weed and Doritos/Beer and Peanuts. Now you are hooked!

Not everyone’s financial story starts with meeting a stranger and video games… But that is what started me down this many year path! Now I am a student of all finances and I realized that I wanted more in life than just to sit in corporate job running data or financials for a company. I wanted to make an impact on peoples lives and the best way I knew how to do that was through money!

Money is a tool and imperative to doing everything in life. So if I could only ask you one question, it would be. What do you want to do, what do you want to accomplish?
