Faith Focus: Faith as a Tree

Faith can be like the branches of a tree- reaching up and out, growing.

Where is God wanting you to grow in your faith?  Where are you growing in your faith?  Where in your life are you trusting in your faith?

In many ways, I feel as though I am “behind” in the learning curve for my faith and spiritual connection with God.  I see and feel my resistance to believe I can count on anyone or anything, and struggle every day, all the time, to “let go and let God.”

Slowly, though, I feel my belief system changing.  I’ve held tight to the belief that I can’t count on anyone but myself, and that while friends and family will help when they are willing and able, in the end, I must succeed or fail on my own.  It’s a staggering shift in my belief system to acknowledge that I am not alone, and that despite my struggles, I am always support, loved and cherished.   It’s tough to accept because doing so requires me to surrender my martyrdom and independence, and accept that I must be able to not only ask for the guidance and direction from God, but also accept it and be thankful for it.

My faith journey begins anew almost every day, and though the road looks the same at first glance, I can tell I have moved further down it.

I believe that God continues to be close and present, arms ever outstretched, waiting patiently for my confidence.

  1. I struggled with whether I should comment based on my religious stance. But I do empathize with the feeling of m wanting there to be a reason. A plan. A purpose. I want that to be true.
